180 riddles and their answers in a clear hand, with a further 17 in a variety of hands. Most of the answers are a single word, while the questions vary considerably in length. No. 138 explains that a pretty lady is like an oatcake "because she is often toasted". Two charades refer to Nelson - "Like Nelson I have been at sea...", and the other relating to the Battle of the Nile. One example, to Napoleon, and another has a decorative initial letter with a man hung from the gallows from within a letter 'D'. [From dealer description].
